From the north to the south of the country, the Portuguese coast embraces the Atlantic for 850 km. A call to swimming! Small coves in long sandy strips, our selection of very quiet beaches. One more reason to follow social distancing rules.
1- Praia do Portinho da Arrábida
White and fine sand, the ocean is full of blue… But where are we? In the heart of the Serra da Arrábida, whose wild green tumbles down to the beach.
2- Praia Forte do Paço (Viana do Castelo)
In northern Portugal, wooded areas give way to a coastline of coves, dunes and secret beaches. Close to Viana do Castelo, Forte do Paço beach is one of the most beautiful in Minho. With a wild relief dominated by the ruins of Fort do Paço, this small quiet beach is protected from the wind. The water is quite cool (count 16° in the summer). Ideal for an energizing swim away from the crowds.
3- Praia da Ursa
A little more than a kilometer from Cabo de Roca, praia da Ursa («Bear beach») owes its name to one of the rock formations that dominates it and whose shape reminds that of the bear. The colors of the raw rock, contrasting with celadon blue and sand, just golden.
4- Praia do Tonel (Zambujeira do Mar)
Close to the fishing village of Zambujeira do Mar, this wild cove sheltered by cliffs deserves all the superlatives. Crystal clear turquoise water, sublime, rugged, striking relief… A small paradise protected from crowds, for a good reason: the descent is done as a rappel, using a rope. Prefer an early departure, which should guarantee you a certain tranquility until the end of the morning.
5- Praia da Terra Estreita
Almost unknown to tourists, Praia da Terra Estreita is one of the quietest beaches in the Algarve. In the heart of the Rio Formosa Nature Park, on the island of Tavira, it has a special position: about 2 kilometres from Praia de Tavira and Praia do Barril, it appears between the Ria Formosa and the blue of the Atlantic. To avoid crossing anyone, walk 5-10 minutes arriving at the pontoon. Transparent water, fine sand: everything is there.
