In Portugal, a curfew is applied in 60 municipalities including Lisbon
At the moment it is necessary to be very flexible and up to date with current events to travel in France and in Europe. In Portugal, where the health situation is worrying due to a significant resumption of cases of contamination, travel is not prohibited, as in Spain. However, restrictions apply in these two countries. In addition, France, through the voice of Clément Beaune, has decided to require a PCR or antigen test of less than 24 hours on return to Franc, for non-vacinned people returning from Spain or Portugal.
The resumption of the epidemic in Europe, especially in Portugal and Spain, could not have come at the worst time for the tourism industry.
While Portugal is experiencing a new wave of contamination, for the moment less steep than the others, but with high figures despite everything.
On Wednesday July 14, 2021, the milestone of 4,000 cases was crossed, with 4,153 cases and 729 people hospitalized, a first since the end of February. This resumption of the epidemic is caused by the spread of the Delta variant.
To protect France from a potentially 4th wave, the government has decided to crack down for a few days, especially against the unvaccinated.
"Spain and Portugal, because the situation is difficult there: for those who are not vaccinated, a PCR or antigen test of less than 24 hours will have to be presented on their return (to France)," explains Clément Beaune, Secretary of State in charge of European Affairs.
This comes a few days after the warning from the same member of the French executive.
At the same time, the Portuguese government decided to tighten the restrictions. From now on, 60 municipalities are affected by a curfew which applies from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
This is systematically applied in municipalities with a high and very high risk level, including Lisbon and Porto.
