According the Minister of Tourism, Georges Pierre Lesjongard, the cruise segment effectively contributes to boosting the activities of the tourism sector. It is for this reason that the Mauritius Ports Authority has embarked on the project of building a cruise terminal in order to position the port of Port Louis as an attractive home port for cruise ships. The project will provide the necessary facilities to accommodate cruise ships according to Mauritian hospitality. The terminal will have commercial facilities such as duty free shop.
The cruise terminal currently under construction in the harbor of Port Louis should be operational in early 2021. Cruises represent an important segment of the tourism industry, intended to attract more tourists to Mauritius.
